Giurgiu–Ruse Bridge: You Can Now Pay in Advance Online
If you are travelling from Moldova to Bulgaria or Greece through Romania, you can now save time at one of the busiest Danube border crossings. From 15 June 2026, the toll for crossing the Giurgiu–Ruse Bridge can be paid online before you even reach the barrier.
What has changed
Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration, CNAIR, has launched the eTarifGiurgiuPod system, also known as e-TGP.
It is available for travel in the Romania → Bulgaria direction and applies to passenger cars and minibuses with up to 8+1 seats, including the driver.
Previously, the bridge toll could only be paid in cash or by bank card directly at the crossing point, which often caused long queues during the summer season. Drivers now have an alternative.
How to pay online
The toll is paid in advance, meaning before entering the bridge area.
There are two available options:
- Website: e-tarifgiurgiu.ro
- Mobile app: eTarifGiurgiuPod, available on Google Play for Android and the App Store for iOS
When making the payment, the system registers your vehicle’s licence plate number.
There is no need to print anything or carry a QR code with you.
How it works at the crossing
There are 8 lanes at the Giurgiu crossing on the Romanian side.
Of these, lanes 3 and 4 are reserved for drivers who have paid the bridge toll online.
An important detail: the payment must be completed at least 3 minutes before entering the control area.
Cameras automatically read the vehicle’s licence plate number, the system checks whether a valid payment exists, and the barrier opens without the need to stop for payment.
This creates a faster, high-speed traffic flow.
The remaining lanes continue to operate for drivers paying by cash or bank card at the toll booth.
How much does it cost?
The crossing fee has not changed.
For a passenger car, the toll is 15 Romanian lei, which is approximately €3.
Using the eTarifGiurgiuPod system does not add any extra fee to the standard toll.
A package of 20 crossings is also available for one licence plate number. It remains valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

The Giurgiu–Ruse Bridge is one of the two road bridges across the Danube between Romania and Bulgaria and is a major route for travellers from Moldova heading to the Bulgarian coast or to Greece.
During peak summer weekends, thousands of vehicles can gather at the crossing.
Online payment allows drivers to avoid the toll booth queue and use the dedicated lanes immediately.
This can be especially useful in the middle of summer, when waiting times in the standard lanes may range from 30 minutes to several hours.
