Penalties for talking on the phone while driving

Using a mobile phone while driving is a widespread but extremely dangerous practice, because it distracts the driver's attention.

Starting in the 1990s, the number of accidents associated with using a mobile phone while driving began to rise, so most European countries banned its use while driving.

The only exception is for phones equipped with a "hands-free" device.

Can I use a mobile phone while driving, holding it in my hand?

No. Driving with a mobile phone in your hand is illegal. This includes (but is not limited to) the ability to make and receive calls, as well as use other phone functions. You can be fined if your mobile phone is in your hand for any reason while driving.

Is it possible to use a mobile phone while holding it in your hand if you have stopped at a traffic light or are stuck in traffic?

No. Using a mobile phone while holding it when you are at a traffic light or in traffic is illegal.

Is it possible to use a mobile phone by stopping on the side of the road?

No. Because while making or receiving a call, you have to hold it in your hands.
